Amazon Great India Festival 2026 opens with 100% y-o-y growth in shopping volume, led by premium appliances

Since then, : Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 draws record 440 million visits, 72% from beyond the top nine metros

Our read

Amazon's opening day shows shoppers trading up to big-ticket items (large appliances at 50x a regular day, 9 kg+ front-load washers at 80x, 55-inch+ TVs at 65% of TVs sold in 12 hours), so stock premium appliances deeply and match EMI offers, since one in two customers used EMI.

The report,

Amazon India said one in two customers shopped using EMI, as bank-backed no-cost options helped drive demand for premium smartphones alongside appliances. Fashion sales hit 7x a regular day, while one in four products bought in the first 12 hours was beauty.

The counter-case

The case against this reading — not reported by the source.

This is a company-reported opening-day figure that can't be checked independently, and it is framed to look as strong as possible. '100% y-o-y shopping volume' has no stated unit (orders, units, or GMV) and no absolute base. Doubling from a weak or differently timed opening day (different start date, weekday, early access for Prime members, or fewer days of pre-festival hype) is not evidence of durable demand. The 50x, 60x and 80x multiples are measured against 'a regular day', which is a low and self-selected baseline, and they are cited only for the best categories. The 65% share of 55-inch-plus TVs is a mix statistic, not a growth figure. It may reflect heavy discounting and bank offers, which are often funded by sellers and card issuers, so it says little about Amazon's margins. EMI use by one in two customers can be read as stretched affordability or demand pulled forward on credit, not healthy income-driven spending. Opening-day surges also tend to fade, and returns, cancellations and sell-through are not reported. The 7x fashion figure has the same baseline problem.

What to watch next

  • Rival festive-sale launches or announcements from Flipkart and others on appliances and TVs
  • Stock-out or delivery-delay reports on premium washers and 55-inch-plus TVs
  • Changes in EMI share or new no-cost EMI offers from banks and NBFCs during the sale
  • Brand or analyst commentary on whether the fashion sales run of 7x holds past the opening days

Likely next moves

Our read of what comes next — analysis, not reported by the source.

  • Amazon India is likely to put more promotion and ad space behind large appliances and big-screen TVs, since premium categories are driving the opening-day gains.
  • Expect Amazon to push EMI-led offers harder with banking partners, as one in two customers used EMI.
  • Flipkart and other festive-season rivals may answer with matching appliance and TV deals, and may publish their own growth multiples to counter the 100% claim.
  • Appliance and TV brands selling on Amazon are likely to shift more stock toward premium front-load washers, dryers, dishwashers and 55-inch-plus LED TVs to keep up with demand.
  • Lenders and consumer-finance partners are likely to widen EMI schemes on high-ticket items, which would add to consumer credit exposure.
